Can you "listen" to be heard?

Updated: Apr 27, 2020

In this time of change, separation, anxiety and the unknown are HUGE drivers of feelings. Your kids will be looking to you for stability, calmness, and courage. Can you listen to them to be heard? Can you be there for them and just be present, sometimes just echoing their feelings, their angst, their emotions. Not always is an answer needed. More importantly, the words "I hear you" I understand" "I'm here for you" "we will get through this together" are just as potent as an answer to their fears or concerns. Hey, we are all confused, chaotic, out of sorts normal routines gone today, right? So be there for your kids and let them know you are available, listening so that they can feel heard!!! Sometimes, actually oftentimes that is all we need to express our feelings fears, and concerns "out loud" to a trusted person a father, a dad. BE THAT DAD and LISTEN WELL!!!
